The building reflects Chania's rich history, spanning from the Venetian era (1205–1212) to the Ottoman period (1453–1821). It was constructed during the Venetian rule as the residence of the Bishop, when the church of Agioi Anargyroi served as the city's cathedral. During the Ottoman period, it became part of the Turkish quarter of the city, centered around 1821 Square. To this day, the historic building retains its distinctive stone door frames and the arched balcony door with its carved lintels.
